Legacy Work
For years before the foundation was formalised, Mama Deborah ran personal distributions in Jos. These are part of our recorded legacy.
Delivered to elderly and widowed households for cooking and warmth.
Rice, beans, garri and essential foodstuffs distributed quarterly.
Secondhand and donated clothing given to the elderly and vulnerable.
A Life of Purpose
From her earliest acts of service to the foundation that carries her name forward.
~1970s
From her teenage years, Deborah showed an extraordinary compassion for the marginalised — beginning a lifetime of quiet, faithful service long before it had a name.
1990
Deborah began serving as Secretary of the ECWA Women's Fellowship — initially at the Dachip Tagama and Samaru Kataf Local Church Boards — the humble start of a three-decade journey through church leadership.
1991–1997
Continued as Secretary of the ECWA Women's Fellowship at Zonzon Local and District Church Councils — faithfully building the fellowship from the grassroots over six years.
1996
The passing of her husband began a 30-year chapter of widowhood she would walk not in retreat, but in forward motion — using her own pain to fuel her service to others.
1997–2000
Elected Leader of the ECWA Women's Fellowship at the Zonzon District Church Council — her years of faithful secretarial service had prepared her for this next chapter of visible leadership.
2000–2006
Appointed International Leader of the ECWA Women's Fellowship, Deborah simultaneously served on the boards of ECWA Productions Limited, the Evangelical Missionary Society (EMS), and ECWA Theological Seminary, Kagoro. In 2005 she also served as an Organising Committee Member for the National Christian Pilgrims Commission.
2000s
Began personal firewood, foodstuff, and clothing distributions across Jos — supporting elderly households, widowed women, and struggling families each quarter.
2003–2011
Served on the Board of Government Commercial College, Samaru Kataf for eight years — one of her longest board tenures, reflecting her enduring commitment to education and community development.
2010s
Her home in Kaduna became a "Transition Point" — sheltering new converts fleeing persecution, providing meals, school fees, and discipleship with no questions asked.
29 Aug 2025
The Deborah Bonat Foundation was formally registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria — formalising decades of personal outreach into an institution.
23 Mar 2026
Mama Deborah went to glory while on active mission to Taraba State. Her final words: "I want to go with my people." The outreach that didn't end.
